BESC/AME Overhead Lines Training Details
Pre-course learning material is sent out to the candidates prior to the day.
The half day event comprises:
Training: One and a half hours tuition, to ensure that people who are working on or near high voltage overhead lines are fully prepared for the assessment.
Assessment: The assessor will observe and question the candidates to test for compliance with the BESC/AME standard, typical activities that will be assessed are:
- Wear and make proper use of the relevant personal protective equipment.
- Conduct a site specific Risk Assessment to identify the hazards and risks associated with work on or near overhead lines and to determine the necessary control measures required to work safely.
- Gain the necessary permission to enter the overhead line work site and, if appropriate, the work area, from the person in charge of the work. Use the correct entry and exit points.
BESC:AME Pre-requisites (National Grid sites)
Valid Person Authorisation (we can arrange this for the same day as the BESC/AME training).
General Health & Safety awareness qualification e.g. SHEA (Power). KeFax can provide this.
We will need to confirm at the time of booking that the candidate is currently working or expecting to work as a contractor or subcontractor on a National Grid site.
Who Should Attend
The Basic Electrical Safety Competence (BESC/AME) passport scheme is intended for anyone who carries out work either directly or indirectly on or near operational plant and equipment associated with the transmission and distribution of electricity.
On successful completion of the BESC/AME assessment, candidates will be registered with Energy and Utility Skills and receive an EUSR I.D card with their registration/expiry printed on the back. The BESC/AME qualification will expire after three years, candidates will then be required to complete the same process again to renew this.
All candidates must bring Full National Grid safety line policy PPE – All items are COMPULSORY

Safety Boots with ankle support are mandatory (rigger boots are not permitted)
