HSG47 CAT & Genny 1 Day Training Course

The KeFax HSG47 1 day Cat & Genny training course is designed in such a way as to maximise practical exercises in the use of CAT & Genny to ensure delegates complete the course with a thorough understanding of how to correctly use the equipment and the correct survey techniques.

Course aims

To provide an in-depth understanding of the correct use of the CAT & Genny. The aim is to ensure all delegates also understand HSE Guidance HSG47 and how it applies to the work environment.

Course objectives

On successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the requirements of HSG47
  • Understand the requirements of the various roles and responsibilities under HSG 47
  • Successfully use a CAT & Genny in all three modes to locate buried services
  • Explain how the CAT & Genny locate buried services and what can and can’t be detected using cable avoidance tools
  • Understand what measures are necessary to correctly use a CAT & Genny in the vicinity of High Voltage Equipment (Substations and Overhead Lines)
  • Understand how to correctly interpret buried service plans
  • Understand the hazards associated with carrying out excavation activities and can explain the control measures necessary to ensure the safety of personnel

Pre Requisites: If attending a course on a National Grid substation all delegates are required to hold National Grid Person authorisation and be BESC:AME registered

  • What can and can’t be detected with the CAT alone
  • What can and can’t be detected with the CAT and Genny together
  • Modes of operation
  • Correct survey techniques
  • Hands on practical of CAT & Genny
  • Dangers associated with excavating
  • Practical and theoretical assessments

Who Should Attend

Aimed at Foreman, Ground Workers and Plant Operators.

This course is for personnel who require an in depth understanding of the correct use of the CAT and Genny. Additionally, this course is also registered with EUSR as the three-yearly refresher for personnel who have attended the two-day course.

Final Qualification

Energy & Utility skills registration and I.D card, valid for three years.
